Mentors for first-year students are employed faculty members and associates of Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences, as well as senior students. The <strong>mentor-teacher<\/strong> primarily serves an advisory role, contributing to the academic success of the students at Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences. The <strong>mentor-student<\/strong> is a senior student who has successfully completed their previous academic obligations. The mentor-student helps first-year students navigate their initial period of study: where student meals are provided, how and where to study, how to organize exam schedules, where to find additional materials, and how to get around the city. The mentor-student collaborates with the mentor-teacher, exchanging information, organizing, and arranging meetings with students. Both the mentor-teacher and the mentor-student are appointed by the study program leaders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities of the mentorship group leader, i.e., the mentor-teacher:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduces students to the organization of the University, services, buildings, academic behavior, ethical principles in the academic community, and their role as a mentor;<\/li>\n<li>Informs students about all relevant updates related to academic and professional activities of interest to students (e.g., provides information about their rights and obligations during their studies, about the study program and any changes to it, mobility options, opportunities to participate in conferences, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>Advises and directs students throughout their studies, considering their academic abilities, desires, inclinations, and possibilities, aiming to improve the effectiveness and success of their studies (e.g., helps students choose elective courses based on content, ECTS credits, course schedules, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>Discusses with students the challenges they face in fulfilling academic obligations and collegially advises them on overcoming these challenges (e.g., difficulties in following classes, learning methods, use of knowledge sources).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In line with their role, mentor-teachers should:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be well-acquainted with key documents important for performing mentoring duties, such as: the Statute of Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences, the Study Regulations, the Teaching Plan for all years of study, the Regulations on Final Papers, the Regulations on Disciplinary Responsibility of Students, the Regulations on Disciplinary Responsibility of Teachers, etc.;<\/li>\n<li>Monitor students and their work, keeping records of meetings with students;<\/li>\n<li>Collect information during discussions with students that can improve the quality of the study program and its implementation.
