Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences 🎓 hosted the session 🏛️ of the Council of University of Applied Science Students of the Republic of Croatia today. Following a warm welcome 🤝 by the president of the BUAS Student Council, Ivan Ćuk, the students were addressed by the president of the Council of Polytechnics of Croatia 🗣️ and the dean of the Lavoslav Ružička Polytechnic in Vukovar, Željko Sudarić 📜, as well as the dean of BUAS, Tatjana Badrov 👩🎓. They then toured our university 🏫 and discussed current topics 📢 in higher education 📖 and opportunities for collaboration 🤝.
MEETUP LECTURE IN FEBRUARY 2025. 📅🎤
Yesterday, we held a meetup lecture on the topic “DIY Smart Home” 🏠💡. This highly inspiring and interesting lecture was delivered by Dubravko Martinić, consultant and founder of Bilo Consulting 👨💻🏢. Dubravko presented how he made his home smart 🏡🤖.
Participants had the opportunity to see the technologies used ⚙️🔌 and how various smart home systems work, including lighting 💡, blinds 🏠🪟, heating 🔥, cooling ❄️, TV control 📺, video surveillance 🎥, garage doors 🚪, and more.

We marked the University Day 🎉, awarding the best students 🏅, teachers 🎓, and partner companies 🤝.
For outstanding achievement and a grade point average above 4.5 📚 in the 2023/2024 academic year, the Dean’s Award 🏆 was presented to Marija Pokas, a nursing student 🏥, as well as Kristijan Radošević and Leon Lučić, computer science students 💻.
We also awarded the highest-rated teachers 👨🏫 based on student survey results. Congratulations to this year’s laureates 🎖️:

We also promoted our journal *Paviljon* 📖. Alongside editor-in-chief Goranka Rafaj and deputy editor Ivana Jurković, Neda Adamović from the Petar Preradović Public Library 📚 spoke about the publication.
We showcased why we are an excellent choice for future students 🎓, while kindergarteners participated in the RaSTEM program 🔬, got introduced to STEM, and were awarded medals 🏅 for their dedication.
The University Day celebration continued with a program for high school seniors 👩🎓👨🎓, who not only received information about studying at our university but also had the opportunity to see projects developed by students and their mentors 🛠️. Around 170 high school seniors visited the university today 🏫.
The youngest ones are always the sweetest 🥰. Kids from the Bjelovar Kindergarten 👧👦 participated in the RaSTEM program and got introduced to STEM 🔍. They deservedly received medals 🏅 for their dedication, crafted in the university’s lab 🛠️, inscribed with:

Btw, VUB is celebrating adulthood this year 🎂🥳! Proud beyond measure 🚀! Twice a year, we celebrate: the graduation ceremony 🎓 and University Day 🎊, while the other 363 days, we work and develop in silence 🔬💡.
Although we are up to our necks in reaccreditation 📚💼, we will once again celebrate Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences Day this year 🎓. We will recognize our top students 🏆, the highest-rated lecturers 👩🏫👨🏫 (based on student survey results), and our partner institutions/companies 🤝 that have contributed to our growth over the past year. We will also promote our journal, *Paviljon* 📖📰.
We are especially excited to show high school graduates why we are an excellent choice for their studies 🎓✨. The youngest ones are the sweetest 🧒💡. As part of the RaSTEM program, we will introduce kindergarteners to the wonders of STEM 🔬🤖.

On February 7, 2025, the Red Dress Day event was held at the Cultural and Multimedia Center Bjelovar, a national initiative dedicated to raising awareness about stroke in women.
Alongside the event organizer, General Hospital “Dr. Anđelko Višić” Bjelovar, Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences also took part. Nursing program lecturers Sabina Bis and Ivan Pokec, together with students Veronika Lendel, Petra Poldrugač, Lana Stubičar, and Lana Sučić, conducted educational workshops, including risk factor assessments, blood pressure, and blood sugar measurements. 🩺🩸
The program included expert lectures from healthcare professionals, with a special focus on the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular medical check-ups, and early recognition of stroke symptoms.
Many citizens, students, and pupils supported the event, wearing red as a symbol of solidarity with those affected. 🔴 The organizers expressed their satisfaction with the turnout and emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to educate the public and reduce the number of stroke cases.
💡 Red Dress Day is a reminder that taking care of our health and reacting in time can save lives! 💖

Lecture Summary
During the lecture, various possibilities for home automation and control will be presented. The discussion will cover managing lighting, blinds, heating, cooling, and integrating various sensors to enhance comfort and security. Additionally, the differences between WiFi and Zigbee devices, their advantages and disadvantages, and how to use them effectively in a smart home will be explained. Finally, personal experiences will be shared, and a demonstration will showcase how all these components are integrated into a unified and functional automation system.
