Sidy Diallo, a physician 🩺 from Bjelovar 🏡 and a member of the teams of Doctors Without Borders 🌍 and Doctors of the World 🤝 in Africa 🌍, was a guest at the Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences 🏫. His engaging topics were presented in a guided discussion 🎙️ led by Dean Tatjana Badrov.
He explained to the students of the professional graduate nursing program 👩⚕️👨⚕️ how collaboration between doctors 🏥 and nurses 🌟 functions under challenging working conditions in Africa. He also discussed how knowledge and skills 📚💡 required for work in harsh and often dangerous environments ⚠️ are acquired and transferred.
Expertise in action: 🚑 A guest lecture and practical exercises were held in the course “Emergency Medical Procedures in Out-of-Hospital Conditions” 🏥
On Saturday, December 14, 2024, nursing students had the opportunity to learn live from Dario Gazić, a Master of Nursing with a specialization in out-of-hospital emergency medical care, whose theoretical part he attended at Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences. 📚 Along with an inspiring lecture covering the challenges and key aspects of fieldwork, practical exercises on basic life support (BLS) were also conducted. 💡
What did we learn?
🔹 A theoretical insight into decision-making in emergency situations.
🔹 Practical application of basic life support procedures – from proper chest compressions to using an automated external defibrillator (AED). 🩺⚡
The practical exercises provided students with not only theoretical knowledge but also the opportunity to experience through simulations the responsibility and quick reaction needed in emergency interventions. ⏱️💪
Once again, a big thank you to our guest for selflessly sharing knowledge and providing motivation to work in this dynamic and demanding field! 🙏✨
On November 24, 2024, as part of the introductory section of the course Transcultural Concepts in Nursing Care in the Master’s Professional Study of Nursing, a panel discussion was held on the topic: Challenges in Providing Healthcare While Respecting Cultural Diversity – From Multicultural Healthcare Teams to Patients. The discussion involved experts from the field of nursing care, and the panel was led by our lecturer, Ksenija Eljuga.
💬 We discussed the challenges of providing care in a multicultural environment. Our guests were:
Maja Barišić, glavna sestra doma umirovljenika Medimar,
Anja Lipovac, ravnateljica obiteljskog doma Lipovac,
Mandica Lagundžija, glavna sestra odjela za rekonstrukcijsku i onkoplastičnu kirurgiju dojke u Kliničkoj bolnici Dubrava,
Roonie Oril Laureta, njegovatelj porijeklom iz Filipina , zaposlen u domu Medimar.
Our students also actively participated in the discussion, highlighting the challenges they face in the field and hospital environment. Special attention was drawn to our guest, Roonie, who shared his experiences of adjusting to the language and culture in our country, as well as his satisfaction with a team that recognizes and values diversity.
✅ We concluded that our nurses are sensitive to cultural differences in patient care 🏥, but also that healthcare teams are adaptable and respectful of employees from other countries 🌟.
📖 Education in this area is crucial for improving the healthcare system, as only a culturally adaptable system can ensure satisfied patients 😊 and better treatment outcomes.
Our Vice Dean for Teaching and Student Affairs 🎓 Zoran Vrhovski participated today in the panel discussion titled *”Energy ⚡ and Digital 💻 Transition in the Context of Education 📚”* as part of the 26th Craft and Business Fair of the Koprivnica-Križevci County. Our instructor Goran Benkek conducted four Arduino workshops for primary school teachers as part of the “Bjelovar Robotics Center” project. The project beneficiary is the Bjelovar-Bilogora County Association of Computer Scientists, and the project partners are the IV Primary School Bjelovar and Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences. The workshops were held in our Laboratory for Electronics, Measurements, and Process Computers.
Our dear colleagues and representatives from the Jožef Stefan Institute held the following guest lectures today as part of the Erasmus+ program in the Mechatronics program:
1. Danjela Kuscer: „Thin and thick film structures: processing and applications“
2. Hana Uršič: „Aerosol deposition, and atomic force microscopy“
3. Tadej Rojac: „Ferroelectrics, piezoelectrics, and electrocalorics: materials and measurements“
So far, a total of 21 students from Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences have successfully completed their internships at the Jožef Stefan Institute. The Jožef Stefan Institute is the most common choice for our students to carry out their internships. Representatives of the University and the Jožef Stefan Institute have agreed on plans to continue this excellent collaboration.
