Although we are up to our necks in reaccreditation 📚💼, we will once again celebrate Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences Day this year 🎓. We will recognize our top students 🏆, the highest-rated lecturers 👩🏫👨🏫 (based on student survey results), and our partner institutions/companies 🤝 that have contributed to our growth over the past year. We will also promote our journal, *Paviljon* 📖📰.
We are especially excited to show high school graduates why we are an excellent choice for their studies 🎓✨. The youngest ones are the sweetest 🧒💡. As part of the RaSTEM program, we will introduce kindergarteners to the wonders of STEM 🔬🤖.
Happy birthday to us! 🎂🎈 Btw, we are officially of age this year! 🏁 Maybe a little more experienced, but still full of enthusiasm ⚡, childlike joy, and humor 😄🎭.
Sidy Diallo, a physician 🩺 from Bjelovar 🏡 and a member of the teams of Doctors Without Borders 🌍 and Doctors of the World 🤝 in Africa 🌍, was a guest at the Bjelovar University of Applied Sciences 🏫. His engaging topics were presented in a guided discussion 🎙️ led by Dean Tatjana Badrov.
He explained to the students of the professional graduate nursing program 👩⚕️👨⚕️ how collaboration between doctors 🏥 and nurses 🌟 functions under challenging working conditions in Africa. He also discussed how knowledge and skills 📚💡 required for work in harsh and often dangerous environments ⚠️ are acquired and transferred.

On November 24, 2024, as part of the introductory section of the course Transcultural Concepts in Nursing Care in the Master’s Professional Study of Nursing, a panel discussion was held on the topic: Challenges in Providing Healthcare While Respecting Cultural Diversity – From Multicultural Healthcare Teams to Patients. The discussion involved experts from the field of nursing care, and the panel was led by our lecturer, Ksenija Eljuga.
💬 We discussed the challenges of providing care in a multicultural environment. Our guests were:
Maja Barišić, glavna sestra doma umirovljenika Medimar,
Anja Lipovac, ravnateljica obiteljskog doma Lipovac,
Mandica Lagundžija, glavna sestra odjela za rekonstrukcijsku i onkoplastičnu kirurgiju dojke u Kliničkoj bolnici Dubrava,
Roonie Oril Laureta, njegovatelj porijeklom iz Filipina , zaposlen u domu Medimar.
Our students also actively participated in the discussion, highlighting the challenges they face in the field and hospital environment. Special attention was drawn to our guest, Roonie, who shared his experiences of adjusting to the language and culture in our country, as well as his satisfaction with a team that recognizes and values diversity.
✅ We concluded that our nurses are sensitive to cultural differences in patient care 🏥, but also that healthcare teams are adaptable and respectful of employees from other countries 🌟.
📖 Education in this area is crucial for improving the healthcare system, as only a culturally adaptable system can ensure satisfied patients 😊 and better treatment outcomes.
The Student Council and the administration of the University held a meeting today titled *”Coffee with the Dean”*. 🎓 The goal of the meeting was to discuss, in an informal atmosphere 🗣️, topics that concern students, hear their ideas 💡, and suggestions for improvement. Along with the Dean, the coffee was also shared by the Vice Deans and all the heads of the departments and study programs. ☕📚 With plenty of jokes 😄 and laughter 😂, as well as constructive suggestions and ideas 📝, students got to know a more fun and humorous side of the university administration. The coffee was enjoyed, and whether it was bitter or sweet, let the participants decide. 😉
